Perry Hall Animal Hospital
It is important that dog trainers and puppy classes use reward-based, humane training techniques – with an emphasis on socialization and positive reinforcement.
We recommend only using a trainer with CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer- Knowledge Assessed) credentials. This means they have taken a national exam proving they are educated in the science of how dogs learn.
Dog training is a widely unregulated profession, which is why finding a credentialed trainer is so important.
We do not recommend trainers who use prong and shock collars.
We do not recommend trainers who use terminology such as dominance, alpha, pack leader, etc.
